Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the strength and oxygen-gas absorbing ability of a pasted cadmium electrode, by making the porosity of the active material layer near the core metal smaller than that of the active material layer near the surface of the electrode plate, and making the active material near the core metal to be added with cadmium of a charged state. CONSTITUTION:Pasty active materials principally consisting of cadmium oxide are applid to both surfaces of a core metal 1 made of a nickel-plated perforated iron plate to form active material layers 2 and 3 over the metal 1, thereby obtaining a pasted cadmium electrode. The porosity of the layers 2 and 3 around the core metal 1 is made smaller than that of the layers 2 and 3 near the surface of the electrode. The active material layer around the core metal 1 is made to contain cadmium of a charged state. The porosity of the active material layer around the core metal 1 is preferred to be 25-35%, while that of the active material layer near the surface of the electrode is preferred to be 35-40%.
