Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a light-weight, high-strengh, high-elasticity FW (filament winding) pipe which is uniform and less liable to generate interlaminar cracking, by using a composite yarn of an aromatic polyamide fiber and a glass fiber as a reinforcing fiber.
CONSTITUTION: The combined yarn 1 consisting of 30W95wt% of an aromatic polyamide fiber and 5W70wt% of a glass fiber is let off from a bobbin 2, and after giving it a constant tension by a tension affording device 4, it is passed through a traverse guide 6 being reciprocated horizontally and is wound around a mandrel 7 rotated at a constant speed. The yarn 1 wound around the mandrel 7 is then hardened in a heating furnace, and after cooling, the mandrel 7 is drawn out to obtain a high-strength FW pipe. The aromatic polyamide fiber may be, for example, Kevlar-Aramid produced by E.I. du Pont.
