Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 3-[4'-(trans-4"-alkylcyclohexyl-cyclohexen-1'-yl]fluorobenzene expressed by formulaI(R is 1W10C alkyl).
USE: One component of a liquid crystal composition, having a low dielectric anisotropy, capable of reducing the viscosity and improving the displaying characteristics at a low temperature, slightly depositing the crystal by adding to a liquid crystal composition as one component, and enlarging the nematic temperature range.
PROCESS: A 4-(trans-4'-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexanol expressed by formula II is oxidized with chromic anhydride to give a 4-(trans-4'-alkylcyelohexyl)cyclohexanone expressed by formula III. On the other hand, 3-bromofluorobenzene is reacted with metallic magnesium to afford 3-flurophenylmagnesium bromide, and both compounds are reacted to give a compound expressed by formula IV, which is then dehydrated.
