Abstract
PURPOSE: To granulate a coal containing fine pulverized coal in water with a small amount of a binding oil at a low cost, by adding an oil as a binder and a specific alkylphenol ether as a binding assistant to an aqueous slurry of the coal without emulsifying the oil.
CONSTITUTION: Preferably 0.01W1wt% alkylphenol ether nonionic surfactant, e.g. polyoxyethylene octylphenyl ether, of the formula (R1 and R2 are H or 1W15C alkyl, and the total carbon number of R1 and R2 is 7W18; R3 is H or methyl; n is an average number of added moles and 5.5W18) as a binding assistant and an oil as a binder in an amount of preferably 2W5wt% are added to an aqueous sluury of a coal containing fine pulverized coal, preferably with a coal content of 25W50wt%, without emulsifying the coil, and the mixing operation is carried out to granulate the coal in water.
EFFECT: A small amount of ash in the resultant granulated material due to the ash remaining in water.
