Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a vane pattern having a smooth and accurate shape by using the surface of revolution formed by using gages rotating around an axis corresponding to the blanking center of the vane as a flowing water surface.
CONSTITUTION: Both end faces 2, 3 of a blank material 1 made of circular cylindrical wood are cut by manual finishing or lathing by using gages 4, 5. In this case, the end faces 2, 3 are formed into the shapes corresponding to the shape of the eye side end face and the shape of the boss side end face of the vane, respectively. Thence, unrequired parts are cut off from the material 1. A surface 6 of revolution is formed by manual finishing in the section located between both end faces 2 and 3 by using a gage 7. Namely, the surface 6 is cut to such a shape that the gage surface 7a slidingly contacts with the surface 6 while changing its position when the gage 7 is rotated around an axis e' corresponding to a blanking center. In this way, a vane pattern 8 having the surface 6 as a flowing water surface 8a is obtained.
