Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the occurence of internal cracking and achieve a considerble increase in output by cooling and solidifying only the necessary section at the cutting of an ingot and producing ingots. CONSTITUTION:In continuous casting, a necessary section is cooled by a local cooler 14 so that only the part to be cut of an ingot by a cutter 11 is solidified. By this operation, only the cutting section is cooled to solidify, and the ingot is produced while the inside part thereof other than the cutting part is held molten. As a result, the enthalpy retaining melt 9 does not yet release the latent heat of solidification in a cut ingot 12, hence, the ingot of high enthalpy is obtained, and the unit quantity of fuel of a heating furnace 13 of post treatment is reduced.
