Abstract
PURPOSE:To form an electrostatic latent image by varying the ratio of an electric field load while applying an electric field having the opposite polarity in succession to the application of a positive-polarity electric field to a photoreceptor of multilayer structure, and by uniformly irradiating the photoreceptor with rays lastly. CONSTITUTION:In the 1st process, corona discharge is performed by the 1st corona discharger 6 by using its power source to apply a positive electric field to a drum 2. In the 2nd process, the 2nd corona discharger 7 generating negative charge applies a reverse electric field to the drum 2 to apply the reverse electric field to a dielectric layer 5, a photosensitivie layer 4 and a dielectric layer 3, thereby polarizing the respective layers reversely. In the 3rd process, the entire surface is exposed by irradiation with rays 13 from a lamp 12, and consequently the polarization of the photosensitive layer 4 is ceased according to an increase in conductivity by the energy of the rays 13. Consequently, the electric field of the photosensitive layer is canceled to form an electrostatic latent image.
