Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled emulsion efficently, by reacting a benzophenone derivative with a (meth)acrylate derivative in the presence of a specified catalyst and emulsion-(co)polymerizing the resulting product.
CONSTITUTION: A benzophenone derivative containing at least two phenolic hydroxyl groups in the molecule, represented by formulaI, wherein R1 is H or OH and R2 and R3 are each H, OH or a like groups, e.g., 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone, is reacted with a (meth)cacrylate derivative containing at least one glycidyl group in the molecule, represented by formula II, wherein m is 0 or 1, e.g., glycidyl acrylate, by use of a catalyst which is a anionic compound prepared by replacing the hydroxyl groups of component A with an alkali metal. Then, the titled emulsion is prepared by emulsion-(co)polymerizing the resulting polymerizable benzophenone derviative.
