Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a mixing ratio of toner and carrier always constant, by compensating output of a density detector in accordance with change of the detection density value of a developer density due to its use history. CONSTITUTION:An opening window 131 facing the developer storage part of a developing device is provided in a developer density detector 5, and a chopper 14 facing the window 131 and having a reference density face is turnably held on a pivot 141. When the developing device is out of operation, the light of a lamp 6 is reflected with the chopper surface, and when in operation, the chopper 14 is opened with a solenoid 15, and the light is reflected on the surface of the developer, thus the reference density and that of the developer being detected. On the other hand, a feedback constant is changed over to a given value in a compensation circuit each time a number of copies reaches a given value, and the feedback constant is fed to a comparator. A toner replenishment amount is also counted and used for setting the following feedback constant.
