Also, in a ring-like air-gap 9 in the magnetic circuit consisting of a permanent magnet 7 and a yoke 8 tightly stuck to both end parts in its axial direction, a cylindrical coil 10 is installed to a flange 11' of a cylindrical holder 11 placed in the hole of the yoke 8. When a current is made to flow through the coil 10, the objective lens placed in the upper part of the holder 11 is driven in the axial direction. Also, a low speed follow-up is executed by driving the arm member relatively. In this way, an optical scanner of a sample and compact structure is obtained.
