Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1 is acetoxy or heterocyclic ring thio containing nitrogen ; n is 2 or 3).
EXAMPLE: 7β-[ D-2-( 6,7-Dihydroxychromone-3-carboxyamido )-2-( 4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamido]-3-acetoxymethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
USE: An antimicrobial agent.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula III in the presence of an acidic catalyst, e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, in an inert solvent, e.g. dichloromethane, to give a compound of formula IV. The resultant compound of formula IV is then hydrolyzed in a hydrophilic solvent, e.g. methanol, and/or a mixed solvent of water with the hydrophilic solvent in the presence of a base, e.g. NaHCO3, to afford a compound of formula V, which is then hydrolyzed in the presence of an acid, e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, in the same solvent as described above to give the compound of formula I.
