NEW MATERIAL:A crystalline pivaloyloxymethyl 7β-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamido ]-3-{[[ 1-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-1H-tetrazol-5-yl]thio]methyl}ceph-3- em-4-carboxylate (compound I) having a melting point of 130°C or above.
USE: A cephalosporin having a powerful antimicrobial action, improved heat resistance, moisture resistance and stability.
PROCESS: 7β-[-2-( 2-aminothiazol-4-yl )acetamido]-3-{[[1-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)- 1H-tetrazol-5-yl]thio]methyl}ceph-3-em-4-carboxylate which is a noncrystalline raw material is dissolved in an acidic aqueous solution, and a water-soluble organic solvent, e.g. methanol, is added thereto. The compound is then neutralized with a base, e.g. a caustic alkali, and crystallized to give the compound I.
