Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the generation of glow discharge, and make a shift to arc discharge to be stably carried out by installing a magnetic core member in a bulb, and providing the magnetic gap of the magnetic core member with a starting electrode. CONSTITUTION:A high-frequency current is fed to a coil 6 from a high-frequency generating circuit 8. the voltage of a commercial power source 9 is applied across a starting electrode 10 and a blocking body 3 through a current regulating ballast 11. Here, a magnetic force line developed in a magnetic gap 5a of a magnetic core chember 5 intersects an electric field developed between the starting electrode 10 and the blocking body 3. As a result, glow discharge arises in the gap 5a, and the high-frequency electromagnetic field generated by the member 5 causes arc discharge to develop in a bulb 1.
