Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the aggregation of a latex and occurrence of foams and obtain the titled latex having improved quality without offensive smell, by using an agitated film evaporator with a gap between the tips of agitating blades and the inner wall of a cylinder at a specific width.
CONSTITUTION: A gap between the tips of agitating blades 1 and the inner wall of a cylinder 2 of an agitated film evaporator is kept at 1W10mm, and a shaft having the agitating blades 1 is rotated. A raw material latex is continuously fed from an inlet 3, and a heating medium is simultaneously fed from an inlet 5 to keep the interior of the cylinder 2 at a temperature of preferably 60°C or below and evaporate the unreacted monomer. The treated latex is then led from a treated solution outlet 4 to a gas-liquid separator. An emulsion polymer containing vinyl acetate is preferred as the raw material latex, and the operation is preferably carried out under reduced pressure conditions of 150mmHg abs. or below.
