Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the contact angle of liquid with a solid surface easily and accurately by irradiating a laser beam to a solid-liquid contact part, magnifying the contact angle by the reflected light thereof and measuring the same. CONSTITUTION:A liquid drop 2 of liquid sample is formed on the surface of a solid sample plate 1, and the laser beam 4 emitted from a laser device 3 placed in front of the plate is irradiated to a solid-liquid contact part in a way as to parallel to and contact the surface of the plate 1. If a screen 5 perpendicular to the beam 4 is placed behind the plate 1 and the beam is projected thereon, the image 6 of the liquid drop 2 and the image of the laser beam reflected by the surface of the drop 2 are obtained on the screen 5. The angle alpha that the side edge part 7 of the image of the reflected laser beam and the surface of the plate 1 form is measured and from (theta= 90 deg.C-alpha), the contact angle theta is determined.
