Abstract

PURPOSE: To retain the contents of a storage module when some CPU is shut down while continuing the operation of a system, by inhibiting referring to one storage module on receiving a down signal and then by copying its contents in a backup module.
CONSTITUTION: If some CPU101 is shut down, a down signal D1 is accepted by the control part 105 of a shared main storage device 102 and while referring to one storage module 103A is inhibited, its contents are copied in a backup module 104. When a request for referring is issued by one of CPUs 1012W101n during this period, the control part 105 exercises read/write control over only the other module 103B. Then, after the contents of the module 103B are copied in the module 103A, the control part 105 permits referring to the module 103A. Thus, while the operations of normal CPUs are continued, the contents when one CPU is shut down are retained.
