Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain superior dispersibility by reacting an aqueous Al salt soln. with a carbonate, treating the resulting alumina hydrate at a prescribed temp., and mixing the treated alumina hydrate with a monovalent acid.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonate such as alkali carbonate is added to an aqueous Al salt soln. to form alumina hydrate. The hydrate is washed and heat-treated at 60°CW the b.p. in the presence of water. A monovalent acid is then added to the heat-treated alumina hydrate and dried, or the undried alumina hydrate is dried and mixed with the monovalent acid. Powder obtd. by this method has superior dispersibility in water.
