Abstract
PURPOSE: A linear polyester containing ethylene terephthalate units as the major component is subjected to melt spinning at such a temperature as the elongation at break of the drawn yarn becomes a specific value and drawn to produce the titled fiber having a specific cross section modification ratio and alkali reduction ration in high productivity.
CONSTITUTION: A linear polyester containing more than 85% recurring units of ethylene terephthalate and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.50W0.65 is melt extruded through nonround spinning nozzles at such a temperature as the tenacity of the drawn yarn comes in the range of 60W85% of the maximum tenacity obtained, when the undrawn yarn is drawn so that the elongation at break of the drawn yarn becomes 30%. further, drawing is effected in a usual manner to produce the objective fiber having more than 4,500/d1/2 (d is filament denier) cross section modification ratio and more than 12wt% weight reduction, when treated with 50g/1 aqueous sodium hydroxide solution at 90°C for 30min. The modification ratio is defined as a ratio of the peripheral length to the cross section area.
