Abstract
PURPOSE: A copolyamide containing aromatic amide units at a specific ratio is meltspun, cooled and taken up at a specific speed, then heat drawn at a specific draw, ratio, at temperature lower than the melting point of the copolyamide to produce the titled fiber of high toughness and tenacity in high operability.
CONSTITUTION: A copolyamide that is prepared from a mixture of nylon 66 salt with p-phenylenediamine and terephthalic acid by melt polymerization, thus containing 1W50mol% aromatic amide units is melt-spun, solidified by cooling and taken up at a speed higher than 1,000m/min. Then, drawing is effected at a draw ratio of 92W98% the draw ratio at break at a temperature 100W20°C lower than the melting point of the copolyamide to produce the objective fiber giving a curve (real line) that causing no reduction in yarn strength compared with that (dotted line) of nylon 66 even when the spinning speed is increased.
