PURPOSE:To obtain a display panel with opaque patterns efficiently without the problem of printing errors by forming vapor deposition films of metal and etching the same to prescribed patterns in forming the opaque patterns on the top surface or the like of an optical display panel. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode material film 2 for forming display electrodes is formed over the entire bottom surface of a transparent substrate 1, and an opaque metallic film 9 is formed by vapor deposition over the entire top surface. Photoresist films are formed on the film 2 and the film 9 and both resist film are exposed by using exposure masks of prescribed patterns and are developed. Thence, with the developed film 3, 10 as masks, the film 2 and the film 9 are etched simultaneously after which the films 3, 10 are stripped off, and the electrodes substrate A obtained by this and an electrode substrate B making a pair with this are adhered by means of sealants 6, whereby the optical display panel having the opaque patterns 9a is obtained.
