Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance bonding strength, particularly impact resisting strength, by adding a minute amt. of pyrogallol to an α-cyanoacrylate.
CONSTITUTION: An α-cyanoacrylate adhesive with modified strength is obtd. by adding 1W5,000ppm pyrogallol to the α-cyanoacrylate. Although the α-cyanoacrylate is exceedingly liable to undergo anionic polymer, polymerized and cured in a short time by water on the surface of a solid or in air, an anionic active species such as an alkaline substance without necessitating addition of a catalyst or heating, and widely used as an instantaneous adhesive for rubber latex, metal, etc., it is somewhat inferior in impact resistance in bonding metals with one another. Addition of a minute amt. of pyrogallol enhances impact resistance without deteriorating characteristics of the α-cyanoacrylate.
