Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the brightness, directivity and the corporating characteristic, by providing a reflective film having an opening at a portion of the inner face of a glass tube then forming a phosphor subsistance film on said film and limiting the electrode current density. CONSTITUTION:A reflective film 2 composed of titanium oxide is provided on the inner face of a glass tube 1 made of soft glass having the tube length of 10-30mm. and the tube diameter of 6-14mm. then an opening 3 of 3-5mm. diameter is made through the top and a phosphor subsistance film 4 is provided on the reflective film 2. Then a pair of electrodes 5, 6 coated with the electron emission subsistance is arranged and the mixture of rare gas composed of 60-85vol% of helium, 5-15vol% of xenon and 11-15vol% of argon is encapsulated. Consequently the relation between the electrode current density and the brightness and the relation with the corporating characteristic can be made optimal, resulting in the improvement of the brightness, directivity and the corporating characteristic.
