PURPOSE:To reduce the painting amount of an expensive rare earth element fluorescent with high efficiency and high color renderability as well as control the increase in lamp power by confining a mixed gas of mercury and specific amounts of xenon and krypton in a tube of a specific diameter with a specific gas pressure. CONSTITUTION:A mixed gas, consisting of mercury gas and a charging gas containing 27-65% xenon-krypton mixture, e.g., xenon-krypton-argon, xenon-krypton- neon, or xenon-krypton-argon neon, is onfined into a 110W rapid start type straight tube fluorescent lamp, approx. 2,400mm. long and 32-35mm. in diameter with a charging gas pressure of 1.4-2.3 torr. Thus, the rise of lamp voltage can be suppressed, lamp power can be controlled to a specified standard value or less, starting can be made easier, and the life of the lamp can be lengthened.
