Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a reduction of the rate of desorption of an adsorbed gas from an adsorbent due to a lowering of the temperature in a tower which occurs concurrently with a rise in regeneration level, by irradiating the interior of the tower with microwaves at the time of regeneration at a reduced pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Air with moisture is passed through an adsorption tower 4 for an adsorption step after passing through a passage 2 and a valve 3. Part of the air dried by removing moisture is decompressed through a passage 7 and a throttle valve 11, and it is fed into an adsorption tower 4' for a regenerating step to purge tower 4'. Each of the adsorption towers 4, 4' is provided with a magnetron 15 and a waveguide 16, and the adsorbent 5' in the adsorption tower 4' is irradiated with microwaves during the regenerating step. In the regenerating step, water is desorbed from the adsorbent 5' and air rich in moisture is discharged to the outside of the system through a valve 10 and a passage 12. By the irradiation of microwaves, the lowering of the temperature in the adsorption tower during the regenerating step can be prevented, and the recirculated amount of dry air required for the regeneration is not changed even when an adsorption-regeneration cycle is repeated.
