Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a binder for molding sand which has a long usable time and no casting defects and which is improved in the breakability of the sand mold, by adding an organic polyisocyanate compound, a polyol compound, and an alkylated phenol compound to the basic substance.
CONSTITUTION: This binder for molding sand is prepared by adding three components of an organic polyisocyanate compound, a polyol compound, such as propylene glycol, and an alkylated phenol compound selected from a group composed of alkyl phenol and a reaction product of alkyl phenol with formaldehyde to the basic substance. This binder has a long usable life and, moreover, when a catalyst, such as cobalt naphthenate is added, the usable life, strength developing speed after hardening, etc., of the binder can be controlled easily. Since nitrogen is contained in the binder in a very small amount, occurrences of casting defects, such as blow hole, are eliminated. In addition to the above, the breakability of sand mold at the time when casted products are taken out are also improved.
