Abstract
PURPOSE: A safety cabinet for biohazards is made variable in exhaust capacity to keep the pressure in the cabinet to a prescribed negative value, even when the cabinet is damaged, e.g., by earthquake.
CONSTITUTION: The safety cabinet 1 is connected through the high-performance filter 23 to exhaust blowers 18' and 19'. These exhaust blowers 18' and 19' are larger in the exhaust capacity than blowers which have been used conventionally and the capacity is varied by the control valves 25' and 26'. Under ordinary conditions, the control valves 25' and 26' are adjusted to a low level of air blow to keep the inside of the safety cabinet 1 to a constant negative pressure. When the safety cabinet is damaged, e.g., by earthquake and air flows from the damaged place into the cabinet to make the pressure difference between the outside and the inside of the cabinet zero, the switch 30 detects it to fully open the valves 25' and 26' for controlling the airflow. Thus, the inside of the cabinet is kept negative in pressure to prevent the bioassay samples from leaking away outside.
