Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve maximum efficiency in the use of a one-time ribbon by a method wherein a printing pitch changing means and a ribbon feed controlling means are provided and the ribbon feed amount is changed in accordance with the size of a printed character.
CONSTITUTION: When a code mark M representing a type wheel 10K is detected by a detecting part KS, a corresponding address in a memory ROM2 is designated, and a multiplying facter of 1, for example, is applied to a multiplier MLT. When the desired type is brought to a printing position by rotating the wheel 10K, the type is struck by a printing hammer 1 to print a character. The address in a memory ROM1 corresponding to the type thus used for printing is designated, and a number corresponding to the size of the type, for example, 6 for the type of a capital letter A and 5 for the type of a small letter (a), is inputted to a multiplier MLT to perform multiplication of 6×1, 5×1 or the like. The product obtained by the multiplication is stored in a down-counter DK in synchronism with a ribbon feed command IRF, and simultaneously, the ink ribbon IR is fed. The content of the counter DK is counted down each time an oscillator OSC is triggered, and the ribbon feed is stopped when the content of the counter DK becomes equal to zero.
