Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the detection of scorching by a method wherein layers of transparent metal oxide coating capable of checking or reflecting infrared rays are formed in front of a photo-receiving element of the cooking range adopted to control scorch cooking by detecting the variation of reflectivity of light from the surface of a foodstaff to be cooked.
CONSTITUTION: When the cooking range is in use, heaters 5a to 5d are operated and visible light from a lump 9 is applied on the foodstaff through an opening 21 and a glass plate 17 and the light reflected from the foodstaff is received by the photoreceiving element 12. At the same time, the foodstaff is scorched by the infrared rays from the heaters 5a to 5b and by those from the high temperature atmosphere in a heating chamber 1 so that the luminosity of the reflecting light decreases. Accordingly, the amount of light received by the photo receiving element 12 decreases and when it decreases down to a predetermined value, a controller 29 is operated to cut a power source 27 OFF. In this case, the transparent metal oxide films 18a and 18b are formed on the glass plate 17 and a glass plate 14, respectively, to thereby check the passage of the infrared rays from the heaters 5a to 5d through the glass plates. As a consequence, the accuracy of scorch detecting can be improved.
