Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain focusing with high accuracy, by using image definition signals obtained from a main image pickup element and a subimage pickup element, as logical inputs, and controlling a lens position by an output obtained by executing a specific logical operation processing to said inputs. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup element 21 which forms an image of an object to be photographed, on the image pickup element 21 by an image pickup lens 11, and also is projected on two image pickup elements 31, 41, too, through a beam splitter 12 is a main image pickup element, and also a part of a two- dimensional video signal generated from said element is utilized as an automatic focusing signal, too. When an object to be photographed has been correctly focused on the main image pickup element 21, the subimage pickup element 31 and the subimage pickup element 41 are placed at the front pin which is nearer the lens 11 than said element, and at the rear pin which is farther from the lens 11 than it, respectively, and when the main image pickup element 21 scans a specific horizontal scanning line, the subimage pickup elements 31, 41 are also scanned by synchronizing with said scanning, and three video signals obtained in that case are adjusted so as to correspond to the same part of the object to be photographed.
