Abstract
PURPOSE: A novel cellulosic derivative, prepared by reacting cellulose dissolved in a mixed solvent of dimethyl sulfoxide with paraformaldehyde with a specific acetylating agent, capable of forming a dope easily recovering the solvent therefrom, and having improved moldability.
CONSTITUTION: Cellulose having a polymerization degree ≥100 in the form of methylated cellulose is dissolved in a mixed solvent of dimethyl sulfoxide with paraformaldehyde to give a concentration of 2W10wt%, and sodium acetate as a catalyst in an amount of several ppm W several thousands of ppm is preferably added to the solution. The cellulose is then reacted with 3W40mol, based on the glucose residue of the cellulose, methylene diacetate or ethylene diacetate at 90W100°C to give the aimed novel cellulosic derivative, soluble in a polar solvent, e.g. water, and exhibiting an ultraviolet absorption at a wavelength of 260W280nm.
