Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an alkoxycarbonylating agent advantageously, by reacting a 2-benzimidazolylmethylphosphonic acid monoester with carbon dioxide and an alcohol in the presence of a tertiary amine and phosphorus oxychloride.
CONSTITUTION: A 2-benzimidazolymethylphosphonic acid monoester (e.g., 2- benzimidazolylmethylphosphonic monoethyl, ester etc.) shown by the formula I(R1 and R2 are H or alkyl; R3 is alkyl) is reacted with carbon dioxide and an alcohol shown by the formula ROH (R is alkyl or aryl) in the presence of a tertiary amine (e.g., triethylamine, pyridine, etc.) and phorphorus oxychloride, preferably at room temperature, to give a compound shown by the formula II.
EFFECT: The titled compound is obtained from carbon dioxide directly in high yield without using a toxic raw material.
