PURPOSE:To increase resolution, by increasing the level of high frequency components of luminance signal than the level of the luminance signal of narrow band, in mixing the luminance signal of narrow band. CONSTITUTION:An output signal of a solid-state image pickup element 11 is given to one terminal of a subtractor 16 via a 1H delay line 12, white signal detection circuit 13, low pass filter 14, and delay line 15. The output of the white signal detection circuit 13 is applied to a low pass filter 18 and a subtractor 16 as the luminance signal of narrow band. The output of the subtractor 16 is a high frequency component of the luminance signal. The high frequency component of the luminance signal, narrow band luminance signal thus obtained, and red and blue signals obtained at band pass filters 20, 23 and detectors 21, 24 are applied to a color encoder 29. In this case, the profile emphasis is made by amplifying the output of the subtractor 16 as the luminance signal at high frequency to a suitable level at an amplifier 17, and the resolution can be increased.
