However, with this structure, for example, if the permanent display is an Arabic numeral zero, the liquid crystal cannot be injected inside the zero after the cell is completed, so the liquid crystal must be prepared before the cell sealing process. The liquid crystal material will adhere to the sealing material (which has not yet gone through the heat curing process at the sealant's root and is somewhat dry, but is still reactive), and there is a risk that the seal may peel off under conditions such as high temperatures. There was a drawback.

N, shape (81)
0) When a liquid crystal is sealed in a cell whose alignment direction is partially changed so that homogeneous alignment regions and twisted alignment regions coexist, and the liquid crystal is sandwiched between polarizing plates, the homogeneous alignment regions will be present regardless of whether a voltage is applied or not. This is an area where constant display is displayed. If the polarization axes of the upper and lower polarizers are perpendicular to each other, a positive display (the display area will be dark) will be obtained, and if they are parallel to each other, a negative display will be obtained (the display area will appear white).

First, as shown in Figure 1, the upper face plate UP and the lower face plate L'P of the cell.In the 6 figures of Takarazukuri, 1 is an upper electrode plate (a glass plate with a transparent conductive film electrode for display purposes on the inner surface); 1 is a lower electrode plate, b and b are polarizing plates, C and -C' are alignment films, and d is a liquid crystal to be injected later. The arrows in the figure indicate the alignment direction of the alignment film, specifically, for example, the rubbing direction or the vapor deposition direction of the film material. At the stage shown in this figure, the cell has not yet been formed, the liquid crystal does not actually exist, and the alignment direction of the alignment film C on the lower face plate LP is uniform at all locations (in the case shown in the figure). is paper WiK orthogonal). In FIG. 2, the orientation direction of the alignment film C' of the lower face plate LP is partially different from other parts only in the part corresponding to the unchanged display, and the direction is the same as the orientation direction of the alignment film C of the upper face plate UP (in the case shown). (in the paper plane direction) K state is shown. To achieve this, after processing the alignment direction as shown in Fig. 1, it is sufficient to expose the parts corresponding to the permanent display, apply a mask to cover other parts, and perform rubbing or vapor deposition. Figure 3 shows that after processing as above, a cell is made using the lower face plate, and the liquid crystal d
The homogeneous orientation region and the twisted orientation region coexist (K when no voltage is applied).
