Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、例えばリチウム電池などの密閉形電池に係り
、特に′電池容器と’jli’、池薔の周辺接合部にレ
ーザビームを照射して牌接する密閉形′rに池の製法に
関するものである。
第1図は、従来の密閉形11ff、池の1U41法を説
明するための図である。
ステンレス製の電池容器1内には、二酸化マンガンを主
成分とする陽極合剤2.セパレータ3゜金(弓リチウム
からなる陰極4ならびに有機液体からなる電解液などの
発電要素が装填されている。
電池容器1の開口部はステンレス製の電池蓋5で封口さ
れるが、この電池蓋5の中央部にはガラス層6を介して
集電体7が取付けられている。
′電池蓋5を電1池容器1の開口端にφyセたのち、そ
れらの周辺層合部8の一点にレーザビーム9を集光し、
レーザビーム9側を周辺接合部8の形状に沿って移動さ
せるか、あるいは重油の力を回転して、同辺接合部8を
順次溶接することにより全周を耐重していた。
ところがこの従来の対重方法では周辺接合部8を順次溶
接するから、先に溶けて電池容器1と電池蓋5が一体に
なった部分が冷支ると収縮するために歪が生じ、はなは
だしいときには今から16接しようとする接合部8が互
に離れて溶→ザできない部分が生じて、密閉封口がなさ
れなくなる。このようなことが起こh tiいようにす
るためには、外力により電池蓋5を電池容器l1111
1に押し付けておくか、あるいは′lfC池容器1と′
j’、T、 f(IIτ):15の周辺接合部8を数個
所にわたって予めスポット溶済などで仮止めしておく必
要があり、そのために作業が煩雑になる。
また、周辺接合部8を順次癖接する5ちに溶接エネルギ
ーにより電池容器1の内f¥1翫が加熱され、特に有機
液体からなる揮発性の?lf、 l昨液の場合に(・1
その一部が容易に蒸気となって1iji散し、電解液の
不足に基因する放′亀性能のイ1(下をきたす。さらに
、周辺ヂ合部8の溶接が進むにつれて電解液の蒸発景が
多(jcり電池内圧が上昇する訳であるが、周辺接合部
8の最後の溶暗部分では桟気が逃げ場を失い、まだ高温
状態にあって固まっていない接合部8から前記蒸気が外
部へ噴出する。そのために接合部8に隙間が形成され、
気液密性が得られなくなり、放電性能の低下をきたすこ
とにl:cる。
本発明の目的はこのような従来技術の欠点を解消し、作
業性が曵く、気液密性の高い密閉形′ル池の製法を提供
するにある。
この目的を達成するため、本発明は、電池容器と電池蓋
の周辺接合部全体に同時にレーザビームが照射されるよ
うに前記周辺接合部の形状に相応してレーザビームを環
状に集光し、その集光レーザビームにより前記周辺接合
部全体を同時(で溶接したことを特徴とするものである
次に本発明の実施0]を第2図ないし第4図とともに説
明する。2g2図および第3図は、第1実施例を説明す
るための図である。
従来と同様に、電池容器1には陽極合剤2.セパレータ
3 、 li:91試4ならびに電1弄液などの発電要
素が内項されており、電池容器1の開口部はガラス層6
を介して鳴電体7を数句けた′眠雁益5で封口されてい
る、。
電池容器1と電池棒5の周辺接合部8には、それの形状
(本実施例では円形)に相応してレーザビーム9を環状
(本実施例では円環状)に集光し、その集合したレーザ
ビーム9により前記周辺接合部8を同時に溶かして融着
するものである。なお、電池およびレーザビームは回転
する必要はない。
前述のようにレーザビーム9を円環状に集光するために
、第3図に示すようにレーザビーム9の光路中に中央部
が互に連結された円環状の凸レンズ10が配置され、そ
のレンズ1()姉よりレーザビーム9は周辺接合部8の
ところで丁度円環状に集光される。
第4図は、本発明の第2実IIfli ・例を説1明す
るための図である。この実施例の場合、レーザビーム9
の光路中に円錐状の反射4ii’ft、 11と、1」
H〜゛を状の凹面集光境12とがそれぞれ所定の位置関
係をもって配置されている。平行に入射されたレーザビ
ーム9が反射鏡11ならびに集光で瞳12で反射される
ことにより円環状に集光され、′電池容器1と電池is
、 50周辺接合部8に照射されて接合部8全木を同時
に溶接する。
本発明で用いられるレーザ装置としては、YAGレーザ
などの固体レーザ、あるいは炭酸ガスレーザなどの気体
レーザが好嫡である。
なお、第3図および第4図では、電池容器1に内装され
ている陽極合剤2.セパレータ3ならびに陰極4などは
省略しであるう 前記実施例ではレーザビームを円環状に集光した例を示
したが、電池容器と電池蓋の周辺接合部の形状が四角形
の場合にはそれに応じた形状にレーザビームを集光する
必要がある。なお実施例では扁平形電池について示した
が、本発明は筒形電池など他の形状の電池にも適用可能
である。
本発明はm5述のような構成になっており、電池容器と
電池蓋の周辺接合部をレーザビームで同時に溶接してし
まうから、従来のように歪発生によるトラブルならびに
電解液の揮散によるトラブルが解消され、電池容器と電
池蓋を予め仮止めしておくような必要もなく、また電池
あるいはレーザビームを回動する必要もない。従って作
柴性が良く、しかも気液密性の高い密閉形電池を製造す
ることができる。

    に同時にレーザビームが照射されるように前記周辺接合

    、その集光レーザビームにより前記周辺接合部全体を同
