The activated sludge method is currently widely used as a biological treatment method for wastewater. The activated sludge method usually consists of four stages: an initial settling tank, an aeration tank, a final settling tank, and return of the activated sludge to the aeration tank.
Consists of stages. The activated sludge method is generally suitable for treating wastewater with a high amount of organic matter, but in order to operate this method successfully, it is necessary to ensure that the microorganisms necessary for purification are appropriately present in the activated sludge and are sufficiently active. be. Furthermore, the activated sludge method requires long aeration times and large amounts of air, and aeration operations account for a large portion of operation and management costs. Therefore, various improvement methods have been developed taking into consideration operational stability, treatment efficiency, difficulty in maintenance and management, economic efficiency, etc.

The contact oxidation method, which is an improved method of the activated sludge method, is a method in which a contact material for immobilizing microorganisms is placed in an aeration tank and aeration is performed. The effects of the contact oxidation method include increasing the amount of microorganisms in the aeration tank, improving treatment efficiency, and reducing the amount of excess sludge because bacteria are eaten by the large number of protozoa that adhere to the contact material. It is. On the other hand, there is a drawback that excessive microorganisms adhere to the contact material, which impairs the flow of the mixed liquid and impedes oxygen transfer. Therefore, an important issue in the catalytic oxidation method is how to select the material, shape, and physical properties of the contact material.

Conventionally, the concept of contact materials used in catalytic oxidation methods is as follows:
Honeycomb-shaped, rod-shaped, wire-shaped, and other deformed plastics have been adopted based on the idea that microorganisms can be attached and retained on a plate-shaped surface, and the more this surface is, the more microorganisms can be attached and retained. This type of surface contact material has the drawback that microorganisms adhere to and fix on the contact material relatively thickly, but if the thickness exceeds a certain level, it may cause clogging or peel off. This requires cumbersome additional processing operations such as limiting the BODil load on the processing equipment or providing a cleaning mechanism for the contact material. Therefore, there has been a desire for a contact material with a new shape and structure that eliminates the drawbacks of conventional contact materials that mainly have such a planar shape.

As shown in Figures 3 and 4, a bobbin A is made of a polyvinylidene chloride filament (hereinafter sometimes referred to as 1-loop yarn) wound to form a loop, and a polyester bundled yarn (hereinafter referred to as ``loop yarn'') for fixing the loop. Fixed thread
In some cases, 16 bobbins B each wound with a bobbin B are set on the bobbin moving guide base 6. (A□~, 6 and B in Figure 3 are Bobin people and Bobin people, respectively.
~16 shows the arrangement and ranking of bin B). This base is provided with a bobbin holder (■) and a guide groove (guide rail) that draws an S-shaped curve that intersects with each other. Arrange it so that it revolves within the guide groove. The loop thread wound on the bobbin A and the loop fixed thread wound on the bobbin B1 are tensioned by the tension mechanism θ.
are gathered around the aluminum alloy core wire 5 in red and white colors. The aluminum alloy core wire 5 is pushed up and fed into the core wire guide O by the feeder 1, and its progress can be adjusted as desired, and its position is stabilized by the nozzle 4 in the vicinity of where the loop is formed. A constant position is maintained. Next, the bobbin A1 and the bobbin B1 are guided by guide grooves provided in the bobbin moving guide base, and rotate around each other in S-shaped curves in opposite directions. At this time, the phases of the bobbin AI and the bobbin Bl are changed from the 180° position to the necessary position in order to avoid collision at the intersection point of the S-curve, and the core wire 50 is moved on the bobbin moving base 6 while crossing alternately. The loop thread and loop fixed thread are wound while rotating on the circumference. At this time, the needle pin 2 provided between the bobbin A1 and the bobbin B2 simultaneously moves up and down and moves in a radial direction with respect to the core wire 5, and when the loop yarn reaches that position, the needle pin tip 2' picks it up and cores it. The wire is expanded outward in the radial direction to form a loop and then waited for the required time. At this time, the bobbin A2 has already moved to the position of the next inner bobbin A4. On the other hand, bobbin B2, which is out of phase, revolves and reaches the position of bobbin B4, where the loop thread from bobbin A1 is wound around the outer periphery of the core wire while pressing the contact point with the core wire of the loop formed from above. When the loop yarn is completely pressed by the core wire by the loop fixing yarn, the needle bottle 2 moves downward, thus forming one loop. The length of this loop can be arbitrarily adjusted by adjusting the stroke length of the needle bottle 2 in the radial direction.

By repeating the above operations, eight loops are formed outwardly on the circumference of the core wire. The contact material produced in this manner is recovered by any means. For example, if the core wire is metal, the loop is fixed to the core wire and cut to a required length, and if the core wire is a plastic tube, it is wound up by the winding mechanism 3.
