Conventionally, there have been two methods for manufacturing watches and the like using light emitting diode displays. One method is to prepare a display device 20 from which only terminals 22, 22, .
There is a high degree of freedom in selection when preparing parts, etc., and it is possible to provide desired functions and display formats, but the assembly work is extremely complicated, and the entire device becomes large, so the display is not suitable, especially for wall clocks, etc. This was extremely inconvenient as it also increased in size. The second method is to incorporate a driving element together when manufacturing a light emitting diode display, and as shown in Figure 2a, a light emitting diode 44 and a driving integrated circuit (chip) are assembled together.
50 on the board 41 and wire it, as shown in Fig. 2b.
As shown in FIG.
4 and 64, and insert and fix the driving integrated circuit element 70 from the back side. All of these require a power source (as they are relatively large in weight and volume and generally require heat dissipation, so it is preferable to install them in a separate location (for example, near an outlet) and only lead out the cord), so they are compact. It is extremely convenient for making it thinner and thinner. However, in production, the work of fixing light-emitting diodes exposes them to high temperatures for long periods of time, which is not good for the driving elements, and when soldering the driving elements 73, 73, the flux causes deterioration of the light-emitting diodes, resulting in poor yields. . Moreover, since a driving element is incorporated, unless highly functional driving elements 50 and 70 are incorporated, the degree of freedom in selecting the functions and display formats described above will be lost. Because it is expensive, it becomes relatively expensive.

FIG. 3 is a diagram of a light emitting diode display according to an embodiment of the present invention, in which a is a plan view of the display, b is a sectional view along line B-B' of a, and c is a plan view of the substrate 1. In the figure, 1

Day: By arranging the date in the day pattern, it is possible to display the time in a 12-hour system. Further, this reflective frame 5 has a hole 8 having an opening on the substrate side at a position corresponding to the through hole 3 of the substrate 1. This hole 8 is arranged in a place not related to the display (for example, a blank space in the shape of a Japanese letter). Reference numeral 9 denotes a light diffusion sheet, which is attached to the surface of the reflective frame 5.

Since the present invention has the structure described above,
The user inserts the driving integrated circuit element 10 into the through hole 3 of this display, solders the pins 10', 10', and connects the power supply and alarm device etc. to the terminal parts 12, 12... If you use it, you can choose a drive circuit element with the desired function, it can be easily assembled, and it can be used as a watch or the like while keeping its slim profile. Furthermore, in the production of light emitting diode displays, there is no need to pay attention to the driving integrated circuit elements, resulting in good yields.
Moreover, since the light emitting diodes 4, 4, . . . are sealed by the substrate 1, the reflective frame 5, and the light diffusion sheet 9, the same strength as before can be maintained against external impacts.

In the above example, the through hole 3 and the hole 8 serve as a storage space for the integrated circuit element 10, so especially when the bottom surface of the hole 8 and the top surface of the integrated circuit element 10 come into contact, the integrated circuit element 10 It is preferable to determine the depth of the hole 8 so that the pins 10', 10', . . . are located at the position of the substrate 1. Therefore, when the reflective frame 5 is thin, it is better to use the hole 8 as a through hole and use the light diffusion sheet 9 as the bottom surface of the hole 8. Further, it is preferable to provide as many conductive foils 2, 2, . . . on the periphery of the through hole 3 so that the pins 10', 10', . . . can be easily soldered. For this purpose, as a manufacturing method for the through holes 3, holes are made in the positions where the pins 10' and 10' are to be located in the substrate 1 before shaping, and conductive foil is applied to the edges of the holes by the single-sided through-hole or double-sided through-hole method. , and then use a punching method or the like to divide the hole into two to form the through hole 3.

There is also a recess 3′ in the thickness direction of the substrate 1, where there is a conductive foil.
