Such sulfonated compounds can be obtained by reacting tar with anhydrous concentrated sulfuric acid or fuming sulfuric acid. This conventional sulfonated additive has the disadvantage of containing large amounts of sulfonated alkali or sulfonated ammonium, which is produced when the sulfuric acid solution containing the sulfonated tar product is neutralized with alkali or ammonium hydroxide. Because an excess amount of sulfuric acid is used to sulfonate the sulfuric acid, if the water used to supply the neutralizing agent is removed, the sulfuric acid alkali will be present in the neutralized sulfonated tar. Or ammonium sulfate remains.

Oxidation is confirmed by the generation of 802 during the sulfonation reaction, and the sulfonated tar is oxidized until the amount of SO2 evolved is from 2 to 60% by weight, preferably from 10 to 35% by weight with respect to the weight of the tar. The objective is to provide fluidizing and stabilizing additives.
