Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer having excellent heat-resistance, solvent-resistance, chemical resistance and strength, etc., by crosslinking a specific cyclic olefin copolymer with sulfur, an organic peroxide, electron beam or radiation. CONSTITUTION:A cyclic olefin random copolymer containing a cyclic olefin of formula I (R<1>-R<12> are H, alkyl or halogen; R<9> or R<10> and R<11> or R<12> may together form a ring; n is 0 or >=1) and at least ethylene as comonomer components, wherein said cyclic olefin essentially takes the structure of formula II in the copolymer, is crosslinked with sulfur, an organic peroxide, electron beam or radiation. The molar ratio of ethylene to the monomer component of formula I in the cyclic olefin copolymer is preferably 40/60-90/10.

The copolymer is produced by polymerizing the monomer component of formula (1) detailed above, ethylene, and, if necessary, other α-olefins and/or cyclic olefins using a well-known Ziegler catalyst, particularly a vanadium-based Ziegler catalyst. Manufactured by More details are disclosed in prior patent applications filed by the applicant (for example, Japanese Patent Application No. 50-110545 or 60-113074). The characteristic of the polymer is that the monomer component of formula (1) mainly takes the structure shown by formula (2) in the polymer, so that the iodine value of the copolymer does not include the polyene component. In the case of polyene components, the number is usually 5 or less, often 1 or less, and in the case of containing a polyene component, it is in the range of 2 to 50, and most of the numbers are in the range of 5 to 30. Furthermore, the fact that it has the structure of formula (2) is also supported by C-NMR.

UKM-DMON notluene solution at 0.91% per hour. A toluene solution of vO(OC2H,)C1 was added at 0.7 A per hour so that the vanadium concentration in the polymerization vessel was 0.5 mm01/4, and the aluminum concentration in the polymerization vessel was 3 mmo.
A toluene solution of ethylaluminum sesquichloride (AJt (C! Hs) t5C115) was continuously fed into each polymerization vessel at a rate of 0.41/hour so that the ratio was 1/13. On the other hand, the polymer solution is continuously drawn out from the lower part of the polymerization vessel so that the volume of polymerization liquid in the polymerization vessel is always 11. In addition, ethylene was supplied from the top of the polymerization vessel at 401.0% per hour. Nitrogen is fed at a rate of 801 per hour.

The copolymerization reaction was carried out at a controlled temperature of 10° C. using a refrigerant. A small amount of methanol was added to the polymer polymerization liquid extracted from the lower part of the polymerization vessel to stop the polymerization reaction, and the resultant copolymer was poured into a large amount of isopropyl alcohol to precipitate the resulting copolymer, which was then washed with isopropyl alcohol. At this time, the copolymer was obtained at a rate of 30 g/hour.
