Detailed Description of the Invention (Field of Industrial Application) The present invention is a low-hygroscopic acrylic resin with good optical properties, heat resistance, and mechanical strength, which can be used as a material for optical equipment such as plastic lenses and prisms. The present invention also relates to a method for producing resin materials suitable for optical recording substrates such as video discs and information discs.

Deacrylic resin, which is mainly composed of methyl methacrylate, has excellent transparency and weather resistance, and has well-balanced properties such as mechanical properties, heat resistance, and moldability, and is widely used as a molding material. However, it has the disadvantage that it has relatively high water absorption and hygroscopicity, causing warping and deformation of molded products.

For example, polymers mainly composed of methyl methacrylate have little optical anisotropy caused by birefringence that occurs during injection molding, and have recently attracted attention. Although it is used in discs and information discs, it has poor dimensional stability due to its high hygroscopicity, and tends to warp and deform in humid environments, so improvements in these problems are strongly desired.

In order to improve this point, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 57-88446
No. 57-162185 proposes a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and an aromatic vinyl monomer such as styrene. However, copolymers with aromatic vinyl monomers tend to cause birefringence and cannot be put to practical use.

Furthermore, JP-A-58-5818, JP-A-58-127
Publication No. 764 proposes a copolymer with cyclohexyl methacrylate in order to reduce hygroscopicity without worsening birefringence, but the homopolymer of cyclohexyl methacrylate is extremely brittle and glass transition It is well known that the temperature is lower than that of methyl methacrylate homopolymer, and when a large amount of cyclohexyl methacrylate is copolymerized to reduce hygroscopicity, heat resistance and mechanical strength are reduced. This causes a problem.

Furthermore, in JP-A-58-104989, in order to improve the decrease in mechanical strength that occurs when cyclohexyl methacrylate is co-supplied, a polymer containing a crosslinked acrylic ester polymer as a rubber component is blended. However, crosslinked acrylic ester rubber polymers generally have a smaller degree of improvement in 1tffi impact strength than diene rubber polymers, so they must be introduced in large amounts, which further reduces heat resistance. It's inconvenient.

The rubbery polymer used in the method of the present invention is a diene-based rubbery polymer mainly composed of a conjugated diene having a refractive index of about 1.50 or more, and examples thereof include polybutadiene, polyimprene, and polypropylene. This is an essential component in order to make the refractive index of the polymer portion (hereinafter referred to as matrix phase) made from the monomer (C) equal to that of the diene rubber-like polymer. The refractive index of the copolymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture other than the methacrylic acid ester represented by general formula (1) is usually lower than the refractive index of the diene rubber-like polymer. Using the methacrylic ester represented by the general formula (1), the refractive index of the matrix phase is adjusted to be equal to the refractive index of the diene rubber polymer.

When adjusting the refractive index, change the content of methacrylic acid ester shown in general formula (1) to actually make a copolymer with other monomers, and measure the refractive index of the copolymer. The amount to be added can be easily determined by looking at the formula below, but the amount to be added may also be determined so that the refractive index of the IJx phase is equal to the refractive index of the rubbery polymer used.

When a methacrylic acid ester having a ring hydrocarbon group having 10 or more carbon atoms is used on the alcohol side, it has a high contribution rate to improving heat resistance, and can be preferably used especially when heat resistance is required. In addition, when an alicyclic hydrocarbon group having more than 20 carbon atoms is used, it is not preferable because the mechanical strength of the resulting copolymer is significantly reduced. [Al monomer content in the monomer mixture serving as the matrix phase is 25 to 100% by weight, and 25% by weight
If the amount is less, the improvement in hygroscopicity will not be sufficient, which is not preferable. (The proportion of the Al monomer is preferably 85 to 80% by weight, more preferably 45 to 70% by weight in terms of the balance between low hygroscopicity and mechanical strength.

Also, if we talk about the bulk-suspension graft polymerization method,
First, polybutadiene (al~(C1) is dissolved in a monomer mixture and heated with an oil-soluble radical initiator such as azobisisobutyronitrile, benzoyl peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, etc., with a conversion rate of 10 to 8 while stirring vigorously.

In addition, when molding the graft copolymer of the present invention as a molding material, particularly by injection molding, it is preferable that the molten resin viscosity of the matrix phase is low, and the molding temperature conditions etc. are optimized. When polymerizing the monomer mixture of the present invention, a molecular weight regulator is used to adjust the molecular weight without adversely affecting heat resistance, mechanical strength, etc.!
You may use it by adjusting the @ range as appropriate.

A transparent resin with excellent mechanical strength can be obtained, and even when injection molding is used for birefringence, a very good product can be obtained. For this reason, the resin material of the present invention can be suitably used for optical materials such as lenses and prisms, particularly for optical recording substrates Iζ for video discs and the like.

In particular, the graft copolymer of the present invention has a methacrylic ester having an aromatic group on the alcohol side of the ester as an essential component, but polymers having an aromatic ring generally have a large photoelastic constant in the positive state (for example, Polymer Engineering Course 2, Polymer Physics JP, 110. Published in 1988, Chidai Shokan), unlike polystyrene, etc., although it is thought that birefringence is likely to occur during molding, injection molding It was unexpected that one with low birefringence could also be obtained.
