[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] In order to improve wear resistance, hardening is usually considered. However, since the cylinder is relatively large, there is a problem in that it cannot be hardened all at once using normal methods, and even if hardening can be done all at once, there is a problem that deformation occurs.

In view of these circumstances, the present invention seeks to provide a method for manufacturing a cylinder liner in which the cylinder liner is heat-treated in a manner that does not cause deformation to improve wear resistance.

In the present invention, the wave-shaped land portion 3 on the inner surface of the cylinder liner 1 is subjected to laser heat treatment (quenching), that is, laser heating, only the surface portion of each stage is sequentially subjected to natural cooling or air cooling.

When the land portion 3 of the cylinder liner 1 is subjected to laser heat treatment in this manner, the wear resistance of that portion is improved. Incidentally, the normally used liner material is flake graphite cast iron containing high phosphorus and high titanium, and the wear resistance of the part that has undergone laser heat treatment is better than that of the part that has not. Furthermore, since the laser heat treatment is carried out in a limited area of the cylinder as a whole and in a very short time, there is no fear of thermal deformation.

In addition, as described above, only the surface of the land portion 3 can be laser heat treated to improve wear resistance, so instead of the usual high phosphorus, high titanium flake graphite cast iron, more than 80% pearlite base can be used. Flake graphite cast iron can be used as the liner material, thereby improving hardenability, workability, and castability. Further, as the liner material, austempered spheroidal graphite cast iron can be used, and in this case, thermal cracking can be significantly reduced.

[Effects of the Invention] As explained above, according to the present invention, since laser heat treatment is applied to the surface of the wave-shaped land formed on the inner surface, wear resistance can be improved without causing thermal deformation. An excellent effect can be achieved in that an excellent cylinder liner can be manufactured.
