The present invention is based on the general formula () (In the formula, R represents an alkyl group, alkenyl group, or alkynyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.) The present invention relates to a method for producing 3-substituted hydroxycyclopentenones represented by the following. The compound represented by the general formula () is valuable as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals or fragrances. Among the 3-substituted hydroxycyclopentenones represented by the general formula (), 3-
Methyl-4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenone is well known, and the method for producing it is described in JP-A-Sho.
Seen in Publication No. 53-21146. However, the method described in the publication requires the use of expensive 2,5-dimethylfuran as a raw material, and electrolytic oxidation must be used to produce the intermediate.
Since it requires many steps, it is by no means satisfactory as an industrial manufacturing method. Under such circumstances, the present inventor has developed the formula 3 represented by the general formula ().
- As a result of our research into a new method for producing substituted hydroxycyclopentenones, we discovered an advantageous method that allows us to obtain the desired product in one step using furfuryl alcohol as a raw material, using a method that was completely unknown until now. The present invention has now been completed. That is, the present invention provides general formula () (In the formula, R represents an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, or an alkynyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.) A furfuryl alcohol represented by This is a method for producing 3-substituted hydroxycyclopentenones represented by the general formula (), which comprises rearrangement. The present invention will be explained in detail below. The furfuryl alcohol represented by the general formula () used as a raw material in the present invention can be obtained by condensing furan with a halide in the presence of a base to form a 2-substituted furan, as shown in the following formula, for example. It can be produced by a method in which furfuryl alcohols are obtained through conversion and reduction. (Here, R has the same meaning as above, and represents, for example, an alkyl group such as methyl, ethyl, iso-propyl, n-pentyl, an alkenyl group such as allyl or pentenyl, or an alkynyl group such as propargyl or pentynyl.) For example, 5-propargylfurfuryl alcohol is described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 46-23729, and 5-allylfurfuryl alcohol is described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 44-27226, respectively. The reaction to obtain the 3-substituted hydroxycyclopentenones represented by the general formula () from the furfuryl alcohols represented by the general formula () is carried out in the presence or absence of a catalyst in a solvent containing water as the main solvent.
This is usually carried out by shifting the pH of the reaction system within the range of 2 to 7. The solvent at this time is
Water alone or a mixed solvent mainly consisting of water mixed with a small amount of an organic solvent is used. Examples of this organic solvent include ethylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, methanol, ethanol, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, DMF, and IMSO. ,
Ethyl acetate, acetic acid, dichloromethane, toluene,
Examples include solvents that are inert to the reaction of aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons such as diethyl ether, alcohols, fatty acids, ethers, esters, and halogenated hydrocarbons. However, in general, there is no particular advantage in having these organic solvents coexist with water. This reaction does not necessarily require the use of a catalyst, but adding a catalyst improves the reaction rate and increases the reaction rate, so it is effective to use it. Examples of such catalysts include various metal salts, organic quaternary ammonium salts, surfactants,
Alcohol etc. are used. Examples of various metal salts include phosphates, sulfates, chlorides, bromides, oxides, organic fatty acid salts, organic sulfonic acids, etc. of sodium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, manganese, cobalt, aluminum, etc. Examples of organic quaternary ammonium salts include tetrabutylammonium bromide, benzyltrimethylammonium chloride, tricaprylmethylammonium chloride, dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride, caprylbenzyldimethylammonium chloride, and the like.
Examples of the surfactant include higher fatty acid salts, polyoxyethylene alkyl phenol ethers, and higher aliphatic alcohols. As the alcohol, those exemplified as the solvent can also be used as the catalyst. These may be used alone or as a mixture of two or more. When a catalyst is used, the amount used is usually in the range of 1/200 to 5 times the weight of furfuryl alcohol, but amounts outside this range are also applicable. The catalyst used here can be recovered and reused after the reaction is completed. The reaction pH is preferably in the range of 2 to 7, more preferably 3 to 6.5. Of course, it can also be applied outside these ranges. Examples of acids used to maintain such pH include hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, boric acid, acetic acid,
Usual inorganic acids and organic acids such as propionic acid, toluenesulfonic acid, and methanesulfonic acid are mentioned, and examples of alkalis include common inorganic acids such as caustic soda, potassium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, phosphoric acid/potassium hydrogen carbonate, and organic amines. Examples include bases and organic bases. Alternatively, buffer solutions with acid-base combinations may be mentioned, such as phosphoric acid/potassium hydrogen-phosphoric acid, sodium acetate-acetic acid, sodium acetate-phosphoric acid, phthalic acid-potassium carbonate, phosphoric acid/potassium hydrogen-hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid/potassium hydrogen-hydrochloric acid, acid 2
Examples include potassium hydrogen-potassium hydrogen carbonate, succinic acid-sodium hydrogen carbonate, and the like. Generally, it is preferable to avoid strong acids such as hydrochloric acid and hydrobromic acid, and strong alkalis such as caustic soda and caustic potash as acids and alkalis used for pH adjustment. The reaction temperature is arbitrary in the range of 0 to 200°C, but preferably in the range of 20 to 160°C. Through this rearrangement reaction, the desired 3-substituted hydroxycyclopentenones can be easily obtained from furfuryl alcohols, which can be easily isolated by conventional separation means such as extraction, separation, concentration, distillation, etc. can do. The present invention will be explained below with reference to Examples, but it goes without saying that the present invention is not limited only to these Examples. Example 1 Into an autoclave equipped with a thermometer, add 0.6 mol of 5-ethyl-furfuryl alcohol, 1/2 times ethylene glycol, 40 times water, and 1/20 times sodium acetate, and add acetic acid.
