The present invention relates to a thermal recording paper, and more specifically, a thermal recording paper containing a colorless or light-colored triphenylmethane-based leuco dye and a phenol compound, which improves the weather resistance of the colored image area and resists light and light.
The present invention relates to a heat-sensitive recording paper characterized in that a heat-sensitive layer contains a phenothiazine to prevent discoloration due to heat and moisture. It has been known for a long time that leuco dyes such as crystal violet lactone react with phenolic compounds to produce color, and the application of the color reaction to thermal paper is described, for example, in Japanese Patent Publication No. 14039/1983. has been done. Generally, colored images obtained by a thermal reaction between a triphenylmethane-based leuco dye and a phenol compound are very clear, but are unstable to light, heat, and humidity. In particular, it is particularly unstable against light, and if exposed to light for a long time, it may fade, reducing the image density, or sometimes completely disappearing.
The colored images of fluorane-based leuco dyes, which develop a black color through a thermal reaction with phenol compounds, are relatively stable against light, whereas the colored images of triphenylmethane-based leuco dyes are extremely unstable against light. Therefore, its improvement is strongly desired. Various methods have been proposed to prevent this defect in light resistance. For example, addition of di-β-naphthyl-p-phenylenediamine (Japanese Patent Publication No. 53-34904), addition of benzophenone ultraviolet absorber (Japanese Patent Publication No. 54-1989),
18752), addition of water-soluble ultraviolet absorber (JP-A-1875-
93492). However, even if these lightfastness improvers are added, the effect is not sufficient, and furthermore, no effect is recognized at all in preventing color fading of colored images due to heat or humidity. As a result of intensive studies aimed at improving these drawbacks, the present inventors succeeded in obtaining a thermosensitive recording paper that provides a colored image that is stable against light, heat, and humidity. That is, the feature of the present invention is that a phenothiazine is contained in a heat-sensitive layer containing a colorless or light-colored triphenylmethane-based leuco dye and a phenol compound. The phenothiazines used in the present invention are heterocyclic compounds known as intermediates for thiazine dyes and antioxidants for rubber and plastics.
Phenothiazine and derivatives thereof having a nuclear substituent such as 3,7-di-t-octylphenothiazine, 2-chlorophenothiazine, 2-trifluoromethylphenothiazine, 2-methoxyphenothiazine, They are 4-methoxyphenothiazine and 2-cyanophenothiazine. In general, color development due to the thermal reaction between triphenylmethane-based leuco dyes and phenol compounds occurs when the lactone ring of the triphenylmethane-based leuco dye opens during the reaction with the phenol compound, creating a resonance structure, which shifts absorption to the longer wavelength side. It is thought that this occurs as a result of a shift. When a colored image fades, the open ring closes and returns to a lactone ring due to energy such as light or heat, resulting in a colorless structure. The color fades due to the bonding of substituents (auxochromes) such as methyl groups, ethyl groups, substituted or unsubstituted amino groups, and substituted or unsubstituted phenyl groups being broken. It is thought that this is caused by The bond dissociation energy of many molecules is between several tens and hundreds of Kcal/mol, and from the perspective of light energy, this ranges from 20 mμ (143 Kcal/mol) to 700 mμ (143 Kcal/mol).
It is expected that light of μ (41 Kcal/mol), that is, ultraviolet light and visible light, is involved in photobleaching. It goes without saying that the influence of ultraviolet light with a high energy level is large, but the colored image that is the subject of the present invention naturally has a large absorption in the visible region, so the influence of visible light cannot be ignored. For this reason, the addition of an ultraviolet absorber does not provide a sufficient effect in preventing fading of colored images. The reason why the phenothiazines of the present invention are effective in preventing discoloration is probably the effect of the phenothiazines returning dye molecules (or other compound molecules) that have become excited due to absorption of light or thermal energy to the ground state (internal crossover). It is presumed that the purpose is to The amount of phenothiazine suitable for the purpose of the present invention varies depending on the type of triphenylmethane leuco dye and phenol compound, but is in the range of 0.1% to 50% of the triphenylmethane leuco dye. If it is less than 0.1%, a sufficient effect cannot be obtained, and if it is more than 50%, the whiteness of the recording paper will be impaired due to the pale yellow color of the phenothiazine. Furthermore, the phenothiazines of the present invention are used by being dispersed in water, but any method may be used, such as by dispersing the phenothiazines alone or together with triphenylmethane leuco dyes, phenol compounds, wax, etc. Examples of the normally colorless or light-colored triphenylmethane leuco dye used in the present invention include 3.
3-bis(p-dimethylaminophenyl) phthalide, 3,3-bis(p-dimethylaminophenyl)-6-dimethylaminophthalide (crystal violet lactone), 3,3-bis(p-dimethylamino phenyl)-6-diethylaminophthalide, 4-hydroxy-4'-dimethylaminotriphenylmethane lactone, and 4,4'-bisdihydroxy-3,3-bisdiaminotriphenylmethane lactone. On the other hand, the phenol compound used is one that has low water solubility, liquefies and/or vaporizes at 70° C. or higher, and reacts with the normally colorless or light-colored leuco dye to develop color. For example, 4-ter-

n-heptane, 4,4'-isopropylidene bis(2-chlorophenol), 4,4'-isopropylidene bis(2-methylphenol), 4,4'-ethylenebis(2-methylphenol), 1. 1-
Examples include bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-cyclohexane. However, the present invention is not limited to these representative examples of dyes and phenolic substances. Furthermore, waxes, pigments, metallic soaps, and fluorides are used for various purposes such as improving the sensitivity of thermal recording paper, increasing whiteness, improving writing performance, preventing adhesion to thermal heads, preventing pressure build-up, and improving coatability. Various auxiliary agents such as alkyl activators and silicone mold release agents can be added. As waxes, paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, carnauba wax, polyethylene wax, polypropylene wax, montan acid wax, higher fatty acid amide, etc. are used. Pigments include clay, kaolin, talc, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, zinc carbonate, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, titanium oxide, aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium silicate, and silicic acid. Aluminum or the like is used. Calcium stearate as metal soap,
Higher fatty acid metal salts such as zinc stearate and aluminum stearate are used. A binder is also used to bind these composition dispersions together and onto a support. As the binder, water-soluble polymers are suitable since the coating material is usually handled as a water-based paint, such as methyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose,
Cellulose derivatives such as carboxymethyl cellulose, starch compounds such as oxidized starch, cationic starch, hydroxyethyl starch, hydroxypropyl starch, phosphate esterified starch, carboxymethyl starch, dialdehyde starch, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, casein, gelatin, Gum arabic, polyacrylamide, alkali salts/ammonium salts of styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer, alkali salts of methyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer, etc. are used. Furthermore, styrene-butadiene copolymer latex, acrylate emulsion, etc. can also be used. In addition, various waterproofing agents are also used to improve water resistance. The method for forming the thermal recording paper of the present invention is not particularly limited. Generally, a usually colorless or light-colored leuco dye, a phenolic compound, a fusible sensitizer, and other additives as necessary are ball milled.
It can be obtained by applying a coating liquid dispersed using a dispersing machine such as an attriter or a sand mill to a support using a conventional coating machine. If necessary, the smoothness of the recording paper can be improved using a surface treatment device such as a calender. Paper, synthetic paper, plastic film, etc. can be used as the support, but paper is usually most often used in terms of cost, suitability for coating, etc. The present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to Examples below. In the Examples, measured values were determined as follows. (i) Color density Image density of thermal recording paper developed under the conditions of contact temperature 150°C, contact pressure 240 g/cm 2 , and contact time 1 second using Macbeth reflection densitometer RD-514 [using Ratten #106 filter] It was measured with (ii) Weather resistance, that is, heat resistance, moisture resistance, and light resistance The recorded images colored under the above conditions were subjected to a weather resistance test under the following conditions, and evaluated in terms of image density retention. The higher the value, the better. Image density maintenance rate = Image density after weathering test / Image density before weathering test x 100 (%) Heat resistance Leave under dry conditions at 60°C for 24 hours. Humidity resistance Leave at 50℃ and 85%RH for 24 hours. Lightfastness: Exposure to direct sunlight for 10 days. Example 1 Crystal violet lactone 20% aqueous dispersion
10 parts 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane 20% aqueous dispersion 40 parts oxidized starch 20% aqueous solution 25 parts dialdehyde starch 10% aqueous solution 5 parts calcium carbonate 5 parts phenothiazine 20% aqueous dispersion 2 parts A heat-sensitive coating liquid was prepared by mixing and stirring. 50 of this
A heat-sensitive recording paper was obtained by coating a dry coating amount of 4 g/m 2 on a high-quality paper of g/m 2 . Examples 2 to 5 Thermosensitive recording paper was obtained in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the amount of phenothiazine added was changed as shown in Table 1. Comparative Example 1 A thermosensitive recording paper was obtained in the same manner as in Example 1 except that phenothiazine was not used. The evaluation results of the heat-sensitive recording papers obtained in Examples 1 to 5 and Comparative Example 1 are shown in Table 1, and it can be seen that the addition of the phenothiazine of the present invention exhibits an excellent effect in preventing fading of colored images.
