Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably manufacture α-FeOOH having relatively small axial ratio, no mixture of branchlike particles and preferable particle size distribution by relatively simple means by using ammonia as a neutralizer in the presence of specific amount of phosphide as medium crystallizer and reacting them in the presence of predetermined amount or more of ferrous ion concentration.
CONSTITUTION: Ferrous saline solution is partly neutralized with ammonia, and oxidized to form part of Fe in the solution as α-FeOOH nucleus crystal. In this case, the Fe concentration of ferrous saline solution is normally 300W100g/l, and the quantity of phosphoric acid or phosphide to be added is 0.05W0.5wt.% or preferably 0.1W0.5wt.% by P conversion amount to produced α-FeOOH nucleus crystal precipitate. The adding amount of the ammonia for the partial neutralization is that necessary to precipitate 5W25 g/l of dissolved Fe ions in the saline solution. When the reaction of producing α-FeOOH nucleus crystal is finished, 1.7 times or more of dissolved Fe ions are contained in nucleus crystal precipitate slurry by weight to the Fe in the crystal.
