Abstract

PURPOSE: To drive an EL panel segment by a simple circuit by inserting a bilateral thyristor into a power circuit of each segment of the EL panel in series. CONSTITUTION: The EL panel segments 3-9 of the EL panel segment driving circuit 1 are connected to bilateral thyristors 10-16 in series and applied with electric power from an AC power source 2. The respective gates of the bilateral thyristors 10-16 are connected to the collectors of transistors 17-23 of a circuit consisting of, for example, a DC power source 25, resistances, and transistors; when the gate of a bilateral thyristor is triggered with a control signal from a control circuit which is applied to the base of a transistor, the bilateral thyristor turns on to supply an EL panel segment current and emit light and when the gate of the bilateral thyristor turns off, the transistor does not turn on and make no EL panel segment illuminate. Thus, even the large EL segment can be driven by the simple circuit with sufficient luminance.
