Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve quality of a casting by arranging infrared sensors in a mold, detecting approached passing of molten metal to variating part of cross sectional area of a cavity and changing flowing speed of the molten metal based on this detected value. CONSTITUTION:In the metallic mold 14, in which the cross sectional area of the cavity is varied at each position, the infrared sensors 17, 18 are arranged, respectively. The sensors 17, 18 have a window member 21 having heat resistance and high transparency and a condensing lens 22 and is connected with a pressure controlling device 32 through optical fiber. When the molten metal 13 approaches to the variated part of the cross sectional area in the cavities 15a, 15b, 15c, the sensors 17, 18 are instantly and accurately detected, and the flowing speed of the molten metal 13 is adjusted by controlling device 32 without any delay. By this method, as the molten metal 13 flows in each cavity at suitable flowing speed from starting, stagnation of the molten metal running and development of gas fault, etc., are prevented. Therefore, the quality of the casting is improved.
