Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity and durability and to reduce residual potential by using a specified azo compd. as a carrier generating material. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer 4 contains as the carrier generating material the azo compd. represented by the formula in which X is H, cyano, or the like; R1 is H or halogen; R2 is H, halogen, or the like; each of R3-R7 is H, alkyl, or the like; and Z is an atomic group necessary to form a carbon ring or heterocyclic aromatic ring. The photosensitive layer 4 is formed, preferably, by laminating a carrier generating layer 2 containing said azo compd. as a main constituent and a carrier transfer layer 3 containing a carrier transfer material as a main constituent. The layer 2 can be formed by coating a conductive supporting body 1 or the layer 3 with a coating solution or dispersion containing said azo pigment.
