Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the mounting of a read sensor and to contrive compacting of the mechanism of an image reader providing the read sensor in the internal space of a U-turn transfer path. CONSTITUTION:The read sensor 51 disposed inside the U-turn transfer path 35 reads image information of an original that is U-turn-transferred at a position avoiding an inverse transfer roller 36. Accordingly, when the sensor 51 is disposed, the fine adjustment of its angle for the peripheral surface of the roller 36 is made unnecessary, and instead of it only the adjustment of the distance to an original is necessary, thus the mounting of the sensor 51 is made easier. Furthermore, since the sensor 51 is disposed inside the transfer path 35, the internal space E of the transfer path 35 can be effectively made use of, so that a space for the sensor 51 to be disposed is not necessary outside the transfer path 35, hence mechanism as a whole can be miniaturized.
