Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a phosphor which can be prepared through low-temp. baking, is excellent in the luminescent color and luminescent brightness and suitable for use as a blue luminescent phosphor of a fluorescent lamp, a color television, etc.and which comprises an Eu2+-activated Ca, Ba-chloroborate phosphor.
CONSTITUTION: An Eu2+-activated Ca, Ba-chloroborate phosphor wherein the Ba content is 50mol.% or less based on the total of Ca, Eu, and Ba and y value of the CIE color indicating chromaticity coordinates of the luminescent color is at least 0.06, e.g., a chloroborate phosphor of the formula (wherein 0<i≤0.5; and 0.0005≤j≤0.25) wherein y value of the CIE color indicating chromaticity coordinates of the luminescent color is at least 0.06. This phosphor is equal or superior to the conventional BAM phosphor in the luminescent characteristics (luminescent color and luminescent brightness). Further, the above phosphor can be prepared through baking at a temp. lower than that required for baking in the preparation of the BAM phosphor and suitable for use as a blue luminescent phosphor for a fluorescent lamp, a projecting tube, a plasma display, a color television, or the like.
