Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a phosphor which exhibits a higher luminescent efficiency than that of a conventional phosphor comprising an activater composed of Eu2+ only and is suitable as a blue phosphor for a high color rendering lamp or the like, which comprises an Eu2+-activated alkaline earth metal haloborate containing Li as a co-activator.
CONSTITUTION: An alkaline earth metal haloborate phosphor comprising Li as a co-activator and Eu2+ as an activator. Examples of this phosphor include a chloroborate phosphor of the formula (wherein 0<i≤0.5; and 0.0005≤j≤0.25) wherein y value of the CIE color indicating chromaticity coordinates of the luminescent color is at least 0.06. This phosphor can be prepared by baking a mixture of a raw material of an Eu2+-activated alkaline earth metal haloborate phosphor with an Li compd. in a reducing atmosphere. This phosphor has a higher luminescent efficiency than that of the conventional phosphor of the same type comprising Eu2+ as an activator and is suitable for use as a blue phosphor for a high color rendering lamp, a phosphor for a copier or a lamp, and a blue luminescent phosphor for CRT of a television.
