Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate yield reduction in steel plate rolling by setting an edge clearance of a shearing device having upper and lower blades capable of overlapping and vertically movable to a specified dimension or less in cutting off hot steel pieces such as continuous casting slab. CONSTITUTION:When 800 deg.C or more hot steel pieces are cut off by a shearing device having upper and lower blades sandwiching a steel plate slab, they are shorn with a edge clearance set from 0 to 0.5 or less. Thereafter, burrs on a lap fracture or the like produced in a section are removed. For example, assuming that an edge clearance between upper and lower blades capable of overlapping and engaging each other is set to 0.03mm and 0.45mm, the contour of shorn section cut off from a continuous casting slab has 23, 25, 27mm of sag length 11c, 223, 218, 214mm of shorn surface length 12c, 4, 7, 9mm of fracture length 13c and 3mm of lap length 14c. Also, since the shorn burrs from lap, fracture, etc. causing flaws generated on the steel plate are made extremely small, they can be easily removed to reduce yield loss.
